Hirewaar (“we”, “us”) is committed to protecting personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and other applicable laws. This policy explains how we process personal information when you use our website and services.

The responsible party for your personal information is Maidport (Pty) Ltd, operating the Hirewaar platform.

Information we collect

  • Information you provide. Details submitted when you register, complete your profile, apply for roles, post jobs, upload documents or videos, or contact us—such as name, email, phone, address, employment history, descriptions, photographs, and introduction videos.
  • Information collected automatically. Technical data including IP address, browser type, operating system, login events, pages viewed, and interaction data.
  • Information from service providers. Payment confirmation from Paystack, hosting and error data from our infrastructure providers, and email delivery status.

Lawful basis and purposes

We process personal information for the purposes below:

  • Service delivery (contract). Account management, job applications, employer hiring workflows, and messaging.
  • Security (legitimate interest). Fraud prevention, access control, audit logs, and platform integrity.
  • Legal compliance. Tax, billing records, and responses to lawful requests.
  • Consent. Where required—for example registration acceptance of this policy, optional analytics cookies, and marketing where offered.

We use cookies for login sessions, CSRF protection, and—only if you accept—analytics. See our cookie policy.

When we share information

  • Employers and candidates when you apply, post a role, or appear on a candidate wall;
  • Operators (processors) including cloud hosting (Microsoft Azure), payments (Paystack), email delivery, and error monitoring (Sentry, without personal identifiers where possible);
  • Regulators or courts when required by law.

Cross-border transfers

Some operators may process data outside South Africa (for example United States-based monitoring services). We require appropriate safeguards and only share what is necessary for the service.

Retention

  • Active account data: while your account is open and as needed to provide the service.
  • Application records: retained for employer hiring records; candidate-submitted files are removed when you delete your account, while anonymised application metadata may remain.
  • Billing records: retained as required by tax and commercial law.
  • Security logs: typically up to 90 days unless needed for an investigation.

Security

We use access controls, encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and role-based permissions. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; we apply measures appropriate to the risk.

Your rights under POPIA

Subject to POPIA, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate information;
  • Request deletion where applicable (candidates can delete accounts in-app);
  • Object to processing in certain circumstances;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based;
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).

Candidates can download a data export or delete their account from the privacy settings page when signed in. Other requests: contact the Information Officer at privacy@maidport.co.za. We respond within a reasonable period, typically within 30 days.

Data breaches

If a compromise of personal information is likely to cause harm, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected data subjects as required by POPIA.

Children

Hirewaar is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The current version is always published on this page. Material changes may be communicated by email where appropriate.
